Ask Doctor Chris: Scars and Hayfever
Every week we partner up with our sister magazine, Woman, to bring you expert health advice from This Morning's Dr Chris Steele MBE, health journalist of the year. This week he answers your questions about scarring and hayfever.
The problem: 'How do we heal our scars?'
Both my daughter and I have noticeable, ugly scars caused by a recent accident with a pan of boiling water. Is there any remedy that can help?
The solution
Try over-the-counter remedies Cica Care and Dermatix. Both products deliver silicon on to the skin to help hydrate it. These products work in almost all cases with red or raised scars. In the UK, 23 million people have a scar, and 30 per cent are unaware that these treatments will help. Ask your pharmacist or visit scarinfo.org
The problem: 'Hayfever runs in the family'
I have bad hayfever, and my eight-year-old son has also started developing symptoms. What can we do?
The solution
You can't prevent it, but you can reduce the symptoms. Treat your son with a nondrowsy antihistamine syrup, combined with eye drops or a nasal spray. Also, try HayMax, a gel which you rub into the nostrils. It captures pollen before it enters the nose haymax.biz
