I didn't know I had an STI

Q I've been diagnosed with chlamydia. How long could I have had this sexually transmitted infection without knowing?

A. Chlamydia is the most common STI and you could have had it for a long time as many women are symptom-free. Some are diagnosed only when they're investigated for infertility or pelvic pain. Treatment is a simple course of antibiotics. Symptoms include discharge, bleeding between periods or after sex, passing urine frequently and deep pain during sex.

Pacemaker worry

Q My mother's in her late 50s and has been fitted with a pacemaker. Should I worry about her long-term health?

A. You will - but you shouldn't. Pacemakers maintain the heartbeat at a regular rate if it is too slow or too rapid. As long as your mum sees her specialists when necessary and follows their instructions all will be well.
