Ask Dr Chris: Food poisoning and feeling numb
Every week we partner up with our sister magazine, Woman, to bring you expert health advice from This Morning's Dr Chris Steele MBE, health journalist of the year. This week he answers your questions about food poisoning and feeling numb.
The problem: 'Holiday aftermath'
I had severe food poisoning on holiday last year, and my stomach still reacts to certain foods, mainly meats. How long will it be before I get back to normal?
The solution
See your GP, who may refer you to a tropical disease specialist. A huge number of diseases can cause 'food poisoning' and you may have ended up with a food intolerance problem, which will need sorting out.
The problem: 'Why am I numb?'
I've noticed I feel numb down one side of my body. It can sometimes last a couple of hours, then I feel fine. Am I lacking some kind of nutrient?
The solution
I don't know your age or your medical history, but your symptoms sound serious! You may be experiencing transient ischaemic attacks (TIAs) which may precede a stroke. You should start taking 75mgm aspirin daily, and see your GP now! Any symptoms affecting one side of the body originate from the brain and need urgent attention!
