Long term health conditions are ones that can only be controlled - not cured. The right medication and information can make living with a long-term illness much easier.

Arthritis affects 3.7 million men in the UK. It's pain and stiffness in the joints and can be controlled with medication and exercise.

Dementia affects about 700,000 people in the UK. There are more than 100 types of dementia - the most common is Alzheimer's disease. Although no medication can reverse dementia, some can slow it down.

Diabetes is a hormone disorder that affects 2 million people. There are 2 types - type 1 is often diagnosed in childhood and can be treated with insulin injections. Type 2 is more common in adults and is often linked with obesity.

Parkinson's disease normally affects people over 50. It's caused by damage to your brain cells that then affects your coordination. There's no cure but treatment can take away most of your symptoms.
