Ask Dr Chris: Acne and Vitiligo
Every week we partner up with our sister magazine, Woman, to bring you expert health advice from This Morning's Dr Chris Steele MBE, health journalist of the year. This week he answers your questions about acne and vitiligo.
The problem: 'My acne agony'
I'm 32 and have acne. I've tried everything, including Roaccutane. My hormone levels are normal and I don't have PCOS. What else can I try?
The solution
I'm glad you mention PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome), as this would have been my first question. You've obviously seen an expert, because you've been prescribed Roaccutane, a powerful anti-acne treatment. Try contacting one of the UK's leading specialists, Dr Anthony Chu, via www.acnesolutions.co.uk. He may have some better ideas.
The problem: 'My vitiligo is getting worse'
I have vitiligo on my legs. It came on two years ago in my late 30s and is getting worse. Is there anything I can do to stop it?
The solution
Vitiligo causes loss of skin pigmentation and produces areas of pale skin. There's no cure, but about 30 per cent of paients regain their natural colour. Get referred to a dermatologist for further help.
