Ask Dr Chris: Clammy hands and dark circles
Every week we partner up with our sister magazine, Woman, to bring you expert health advice from This Morning's Dr Chris Steele MBE, health journalist of the year. This week he answers your questions about clammy hands and dark circles under the eyes.
The problem: 'His hands are clammy'
My husband always has clammy hands. What do you think could be the cause?
The solution
He may have hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), which could also affect his body and feet. He should try products like Driclor and Anhydrol Forte and if these don't work, his GP may help with prescription medications or investigate certain conditions like overactive thyroid and anxiety syndrome. There is even an operation (sympathectomy) that may help.
The problem: 'I look like I've got black eyes!'
I've got permanently dark circles underneath my eyes which are quite unsightly. I get plenty of sleep though, so what's causing this?
The solution
This is more common in Mediterranean skin types. If you're overweight and snore, you may have sleep apnoea, which could be depriving you of oxygen - talk to your GP about this. Otherwise, try to get 30 minutes' exercise a day, eat a varied diet (including your five-a-day) and reduce the boozeand the ciggies.
