Woman's Weekly Wellbeing: More energy

Want more energy? Woman's Weekly Wellbeing
Average rating: 3 out of 5 star rating

Woman's Weekly Every week we team up with our sister magazine Woman's Weekly and look at a health condition, offering wellbeing tips and simple ways to ease the problem. This week it's low energy.

Reiki
Reiki is a healing technique that originated in Japan. You sit or lie down, fully clothed, while the practitioner places her hands lightly on, or just above, your body, in a series of different positions. You should feel the flow of energy as heat or tingling. During the session you'll feel deeply relaxed and hould leave with renewed energy.

Try: The Reiki Council: Call 07940 913382. A session lasts for around an hour and costs £20-£60.

Going for a walk
There's nothing like a brisk walk to give you burst of energy, even if you're tired when you set out. Research at the University of Georgia found that a walk brought increased energy, even for people with chronic medical conditions such as heart disease, diabetes and cancer. And in other studies, a quick
walk outside brought more of an increase in energy than an afternoon nap.

Try: Walking for Health by Dr William Bird and Veronica Reynolds (Carroll & Brown, £9.99).

Energy supplements
You should get all the energy you need from a balanced diet with plenty of fresh fruit and veg and good amounts of wholegrain carbs (the ones that are slowly absorbed and therefore provide long-lasting energy). Some herbal products are said to boost flagging energy levels, so may be worth a try.

Try: Rhodiola rosea, which has been shown in research to increase energy and the ability to concentrate, and to reduce stress. Vitano, £12.99 for 30 tablets, contains rhodiola rosea from Boots, or visit www.vitano.co.uk
