Dealing with abnormal heart rhythms and arrhythmias

Dealing with abnormal heart rhythms and arrhythmias

'The vast majority of young and otherwise fit adults with the symptoms of this condition actually have stress-related palpitations, rather than them being due to anything else more serious. However, in all such cases I always tell patients to have a simple medical check-up, since very occasionally there can be pacemaker problems that have just arisen suddenly. Do therefore see your GP and discuss your symptoms, and remember to cut down on your intake of caffeine, alcohol and cigarettes, as these can all stimulate heart irregularities.'
Dr Roger Henderson, Shropshire GP and author
