Ease the pain of bunions

I had a big, painful bunion on my foot but wanted to avoid an operation. My doctor recommended anti-inflammatory medicine, and also suggested I use a moleskin patch to protect the bunion from being rubbed by my shoe. Dr Scholl does one that you just cut to size. It costs £1.95.
Helen Rees, 61, Finchley, North London

Badly-fitting footwear causes and aggravates existing bunions. Don't assume you know what shoe size you are as many brands are slightly different. Try shoes on at the end of the day when your feet are slightly swollen. That way you should get a good fit and avoid further problems.
