These delicious apple and vanilla croissants can be eaten for breakfast, tea or dessert - the choice is yours

Ingredients

Sprinkle with flaked almonds for a deliciously nutty breakfast or teatime treat.

  • 50g (2oz) butter
  • 25g (1oz) golden caster sugar
  • ½ vanilla pod, split lengthways
  • 4 Braeburn apples, cored and sliced
  • 4 all-butter croissants, split in half
  • 142ml (5fl oz) crème fraîche

Method

  1. Put the butter in a large non-stick frying pan and sprinkle with sugar. Add the vanilla pod and heat until the butter melts.
  2. Top with the apple slices and cook over a medium heat for 10 mins until caramelised and golden.
  3. Warm the croissants - you can do this in the oven or under the grill. Place a croissant on each plate and fill with the apple mixture and a dollop of crème fraîche.
