pasta Bacon Cheese Sauce

  • Serves: 2

  • Cooking time:

  • Skill level: Easy peasy

  • Costs: Cheap as chips

This cheesy pasta dish with bacon and mushrooms is bound to be as much of a hit with your family, as it is with Vanessa Jones'- her kids can't get enough of it.

  • Pasta shapes or spaghetti (about 50g to 75g per person)
  • 6 rashers bacon, chopped
  • 10 mushrooms, chopped
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, crushed
  • 25g (1oz) butter
  • 25g (1oz) flour
  • 1/2 pint of milk
  • Handful of grated cheese

To make into a pasta bake, pour the pasta and sauce into a ceramic dish, sprinkle with breadcrumbs and bake at 190°C/375°F/gas 5 for 30 mins.

  1. Cook the pasta in boiling water according to packet instructions.
  2. Meanwhile, fry the bacon, mushrooms, onion and garlic for 10 mins, until done.
  3. In a separate pan, melt the butter and add the flour. Gradually stir in the milk, whisking to get rid of any lumps.
  4. Bring the sauce to the boil, then simmer. Add the cheese and allow it to melt.
  5. Take the sauce off the heat, mix in the bacon, mushrooms, onion and garlic. Pour over the drained pasta and serve.

Very nice - I added salt and pepper at the end to taste which gave it what I think it needs. I used tagliatelle and just kept adding cheese until I liked the taste. Had to leave out the mushrooms though as hubby doesn't like them :( still nice though.

Just made this for my fussy hubby added extra bacon and cheese though. Absolutely gorgeous and he loves it! Thanks for the recipe. BTW I used my taste for the amount of cheese! ;-)

i added some capsicum (we were out of mushroom) and it tasted great!

I made this today with my 12 year old daughter and it was most delicious and very easy. Definately one to repeat.

I was looking for a quick cheap recipe and found this, practically all the ingredients here most people have to hand. I do a lot of cooking and this recipe has given me more satisfaction than most so tasty and the wife and kids loved it. My only danger now is I'll probably overkill it with the family.

I made this today but added chicken and swopped salami for the bacon...... YUMMY!!!!!

Within 15mins of reading this recipe I was eating it! I'm a rubish cook and it tasted lush! Cheese Bacon and mushrooms were made for each other! NICE
