If you have a lot of bananas, put some of them in the fridge wrapped in tin foil, making sure they're totally covered, and you'll find they'll stay yellow and firm. They'll keep for well over a week.

Don't throw away bananas if they start to turn brown – just pop them in the freezer. Use frozen for smoothies, or defrost to make banana bread and cakes.

I read a very good tip for keeping bananas in which when you buy them separate into individual fruit and store in a dark cupboard. I have had bananas 3 wks and they have still been lovely and firm. It really works...
