The flavour of cabbage and apple complement one another beautifully and the addition of mustard seeds adds a bit of bite to this easy to prepare dish. Try serving this cabbage recipe with roast pork. If you want to increase the peppery taste of the mustard, you can add another ½ tsp mustard seeds towards the end of the cooking time. If you don't have any mustard seeds, cook the cabbage and stir in1-2 tbsp wholegrain mustard.

If you don't have any mustard seeds, cook the cabbage and stir in 1-2 tbsp wholegrain mustard.250ml (8 fl oz) apple juice
  • 1/4 red cabbage, washed and thinly sliced
  • 2tsp mustard seeds, crushed
  • Salt and freshly ground pepper

Method

  1. Pour the apple juice and water into a pan and bring to the boil.
  2. Add the red cabbage and crushed mustard seeds. Season well and bring back to the boil.
  3. Cover and simmer over a low heat for 10-12 minutes until the cabbage is tender, stirring occasionally. Drain and serve.
