Sangria, a punch from Spain made with wine and fruit, is delicious and very easy to make. In fact it's hard to go wrong

  • 1 bottle of red wine (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Rioja, Zinfandel, Shiraz)
  • Juice of one large orange
  • Juice of one large lemon
  • 1 orange, sliced thinly crosswise
  • 1 lemon, sliced thinly crosswise
  • 2tbsp sugar
  • 1 shot brandy
  • 2 cups ginger ale or club soda

If you'd like to serve right away, use chilled red wine and serve over lots of ice.

  1. Pour wine into a pitcher or jug and add the orange and lemon juice.
  2. Toss in the fruit slices (leaving out pips if possible) and any extra fruit you choose. Add the sugar and brandy.
  3. Chill overnight. Add the ginger ale or club soda just before serving.

now you are talking, no BBQ is complete with a little drop of alcohol! Thsi seems like a lovely idea and a nice change from pimms, do you think the fruit could count as one of your five a day?

Would love to make this, we love sangria but never known how to make it myself, but really looks very easy! Perfect for imagining you are in sunny Spain! Definitely going to be trying this!

Now this to me is the perfect ingredient to a summer BBQ. We end up with so much food but always struggle with drinks, so its nice to see some refreshing recipes. I love this and its up there as one of my favourites.
