Make your mince pies extra special by shaping them like mini stars - perfect to finish off a meal with coffee or as part of a party buffet.

Ingredients

  • 1 x 500g pack frozen shortcrust pastry, thawed
  • 200g (7oz) mincemeat
  • Caster sugar for sprinkling
  • Star-shaped biscuit cutter

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 200°C/400°F/gas mark 6. Have ready a mini muffin tin (you might need to use the tin more than once to make 16 pies).
  2. Roll out the pastry and cut out 16 x 7.5cm/3in discs. Use the trimmings to cut out 16 star shapes.
  3. Press the discs into the mini muffin tin, then add a teaspoon of mincemeat to each one, and a star shape on top (moistened with a little water).
  4. Brush the star shapes with water and sprinkle lightly with caster sugar.
  5. Bake for 12-15 mins until the pastry is golden brown.
