The buttery oats mixed in with sweet dried fruit and crunchy nuts in this recipe makes the ultimate breakfast treat.

  • Makes: 450g

Ingredients

  • 25g (1oz) butter
  • 25g (1oz) mixed nuts (brazils, hazelnuts, walnuts and almonds) roughly chopped
  • 25g (1oz) mixed seeds (pumpkin, sesame, and sunflower)
  • 50g (2oz) dried figs, roughly chopped
  • 25g (1oz) dried cranberries
  • 25g (1oz) dried apricots, roughly chopped
  • 30-45ml (2-3tbsp) honey or maple syrup

Method

  1. Spread the oats out on a non-stick or lined baking sheet.
  2. Dot with the butter and then scatter over all the other nuts, seeds and fruit except the cranberries and apricots.
  3. Drizzle over the honey or maple syrup.
  4. Cook in a hot preheated oven at 200ºC/400ºF/gas mark 6 for 10 mins - lightly mix together and add the extra spoonful of honey or maple syrup at this stage if you wish - cook for a further 5 mins until the granola is starting to turn golden brown.
  5. Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly before spooning into an air tight container.
  6. Add the cranberries and apricots ? serve two spoonfuls onto natural yogurt and save the rest to use over the next couple of days
