  • NME Sugars: non-milk extrinsic sugars

Non-milk extrinsic (NME) sugars are one of the different types of sugars. These include the sugar we buy in shops and the sugars that are added to some foods and drinks, especially cakes, biscuits, sweets, squashes and sugary fizzy drinks. NME sugars are also found in fruit juice. We should try not to have too much of NME sugars because they can cause tooth decay. These are different to intrinsic sugars, which are found naturally in foods such as whole fruit and vegetables, and milk - we don't need to avoid intrinsic sugars.

How about you make some suggestions Taniya... since my daughters are interested in seeing foods around the world.. what do YOU normally pack into your childrens boxes there?

a good idea that i do it to use the wooden lolly pop sticks as the skewers :-)

Skewer with a skewer, remove skewer and replace with an ordinary drinking straw. All praise Annabel Karmel!!!

Hi jackie, thanks for your comment - that's a good point. If your child's school won't allow wooden skewers, simply leave them out and put the fruit in a tupperware container.

you say on tuesdays menu fruit kebab but how can you do a kebab with out the stick as they are not aloud to take any thing like that in to school.
