Ingredients

Annabel Karmel's tips: 'In the first week of weaning, give babies solids at lunchtime, as in the morning they may be too hungry and in the evening too tired.'

  • 2dessert apples, peeled, cored and chopped
  • 2 ripe pears, peeled cored and chopped
  • 4tbsp unsweetened apple juice or water
  • 1 vanilla pod

Method

  1. Put the fruit into a heavy-based saucepan together with the apple juice or water.
  2. Split the vanilla pod, scrape the seeds into the pan and throw in the split vanilla pod.
  3. Cover and cook over a low heat until tender (about 6 mins). Remove the vanilla pod and blend the fruit to a smooth puree.
