A hot toddy a day keeps the doctor away... perhaps not but this boozy cocktail is a real winter warmer and is sure to put everyone in good spirits if you're hosting a Burn's Night feast! A hot toddy is a classic winter cocktail as it's served warm and combines whisky, apple juice and cinnamon. Our hot toddy recipe makes one cocktail but you could easily make up a big batch so that your guests can re-fill their glasses at their own pace and you can focus on the food (or having fun!) If you like mulled wine and hot buttered rum, a hot toddy is sure to become a new favourite go-to cocktail and once you've mastered the recipe, all your friends and family will be asking for tips...

Ingredients

  • 50ml whisky
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla sugar
  • 1 pod of green cardamom
  • Cinnamon
  • 2 wedges of lemon, juiced
  • 1 wedge of orange, juiced
  • 37.5ml pressed apple juice
  • Boiling water

Method

  1. Add 1 pod of green cardamom, a pinch of cinnamon and 2 teaspoons of vanilla sugar to a heat proof glass and gently press the cardamom.
  2. Half fill the glass with boiling water then pour in the apple juice and Teacher’s whisky.
  3. Squeeze in 2 wedges of lemon and a wedge of orange, gently stir until the sugar has dissolved and then top up with boiling water.
  4. If preferred, strain off into a fresh glass and garnish with a cinnamon stick.
