(10 ratings)

As part of our special how to start a cake business series, goodtoknow went to Derbyshire to meet local mum of one, Amy Nolan, to find out how she set up her successful cake company, Cakes from my Kitchen and to find out her advice on how to start and run a cake business from home.

Amy, mum to 3-year-old Henry, started her business from her home with the support of husband Simon after she was made redundant in 2011. She now makes celebration cakes and cupcakes for local birthday parties and special occasions.

Watch Amy talk about how she got her cake business started in our video above.

Hi Barbara - Amy says: 'I couldn't find cat cutters in the size I wanted for the cake, so the cats on that one were (painstakingly!!!) cut out by hand using a craft knife. I printed some cat silhouettes from Google images, and used them as stencils. I did buy some cat cookie cutters for the job, but on delivery they were far too big so I decided not to use them and cut them out the hard way! ' Hope that helps.

That's great Barbara - keep us posted with your progress. We'll check with Amy where the cat cutters are from!

This article has been very helpful and informative. It has made more determined to try and start my own cake business. I would love to know where the cutters for the cats on that cake were purchased. Thank you for your help. Barbara
