Homemade smoothies make an excellent healthy breakfast or afternoon pick-me-up. Whip up this simple recipe, packed with wheat germ a great source of calcium, B vitamins, vitamin E, magnesium, iron, and zinc, and find yourself feeling nutritionally invigorated with every gulp. The orange will also help boost your vitamin C levels too – plus it simply tastes brilliant.

Ingredients

  • 1 stick lemongrass
  • 1 orange
  • 2tsp wheat germ
  • 225ml whole-milk yogurt
  • 1-2tsp clear honey

For a more tangy smoothie, replace the orange with a lime.

Method

  1. Trim the ends of the lemongrass and remove the tough outer layers. Thinly slice the remainder and place in a blender.
  2. Grate the zest from the orange and squeeze the juice. Add to the blender and blend until the lemongrass is finely chopped.
  3. Add the wheat germ, yogurt and honey and blend until smooth.
