Britain's favourite restaurant has been revealed and the result may surprise you...

We all have a favourite food joint, but do you have any idea what the nation's favourite fast-food restaurant is?

Well, according to a new study, it's the hamburgers and hot dogs experts Five Guys.

The winner last year was long-time favourite Nando's, but it seems chicken is no longer the key to our hearts.

The study revealed Five Guys are big on food quality, overall cleanliness and staff friendliness, while Nando's can count speed, value for money and atmosphere among its qualities.

The rest of the top five includes big names like Gourmet Burger Kitchen in third place, KFC in fourth, and Burger King closing the first five places.

Considering that Five Guys only launched in the UK in 2013, it's pretty impressive that they managed to grab Nando's crown in just three years.

The study also includes Britain's favourite chains to get coffee from, and the winner, for the second time running, was Pret A Manger, while Cafe Nero came in at a close second. Greggs was ranked third, while Costa and Starbucks came in at fourth and fifth respectively.

Coffee shop winner Pret came out on top in staff friendliness, cleanliness, service and food quality, while Greggs is favourite for value for money. Cafe Nero won for its atmosphere.

The results come from a survey of 4,565 customers, who rated their last experience at the fast food restaurants and cafes, marking them out of five across areas such as speed of service, food quality and value for money.

Cheryl Flink, Market Force's chief strategy officer, said of the results: 'The quick service restaurant category is evolving all the time, with new chains launching and arriving from overseas. Our research shows the quick traction of newcomer Five Guys – guests really appreciate the tasty burgers and think the brand offers great value.'
