Pancakes are fun, but pancakes that look like animals are even better! This simple twist on classic Scotch pancakes is sure to get the kids excited about eating fruit for breakfast. With banana eyes, strawberry wings and blueberry facial features these owls are one nutritious plate of goodies. We’ve used peanut butter for the spread, but if your child has allergies or they're not keen on it then you can use anything you’d like. Chocolate spread is a bit naughty but delicious, and jam works well here too. The same flexibility goes to the fruit – you can mix and match whatever you have in the fridge, or depending on what your little ones like. For a fun weekend breakfast you can lay out all the ingredients and get your kids to make their own plate of animal pancakes. If you’re feeling particularly brave this makes a great activity for birthday parties, it should keep everyone quiet for a little while but there will be mess!

- 2 Scotch pancakes
- 1 tbsp peanut butter
- 2 strawberries
- 12 blueberries
- ¼ banana
- Firstly chop your banana into four rounds for the owls’ eyes and then slice your strawberries into four triangles (using the middle section to make them flat) for the wings, and two smaller triangles for the beaks.
- To build your banana pancakes lay two Scotch pancakes on a plate side by side.
- Top with peanut butter (or your favourite spread) and then put two banana slices on each pancake towards the top for the eyes.
- Add blueberries for the pupils and arrange the beak and wings around the eyes.
- Scatter the remaining blueberries on the plate for an added helping of fruit.
