Christmas baking recipes
Christmas baking recipes to get you into the Christmas spirit, including Christmas cakes, easy mince pies and gingerbread.
It's no secret that we love baking all year round but it's just that little bit special in the festive season. Christmas baking is fun for all the family, whether you're making a gingerbread house or decorating Christmas biscuits with the kids, or getting to grips with fondant icing and decorating your own Christmas cake.
Many Christmas bakes can easily be made in advance, especially when it comes to Christmas cakes, which actually benefit from being made months ahead - and things like mince pies can be frozen, so you can plan ahead and pull them out of the freezer when you need them.
Best for making ahead
The first thing to bake for Christmas is a traditional Christmas cake. They can be made up to 3 months in advance and actually taste better the longer you leave the flavours to mature. They're also a nice two-level bake as you make the base weeks beforehand then decorate them closer to the Christmas Day.
Mary Berry's Christmas cake recipe is our most popular, but take a look at our Christmas cake recipes and decorating ideas before you start on the fun part.
Best for bake sales
The flat surfaces of cupcakes make them the perfect base for fun Christmas designs. You can also play around with the mixture and make seasonal flavoured sponges. You can add mulled wine, Baileys, or any of your favourite flavours into the mix - why not? It's Christmas after all.

Best for baking with kids
The kids will undoubtedly be very, very excited about Christmas! One way to channel all that energy is a big baking session, especially over the school holidays. Christmas biscuits are perfect to cook with children as they're quick, don't require too much mixing and can be decorated with lots of colourful designs.
Best traditional bake
There's only one time of year that you can bake mince pies, so you may as well bake them while you can. There's no better way to make your home feel really festive that getting those lovely sweet and spicy aromas wafting from the kitchen. Keep it simple by using ready made pastry and mincemeat (we won't tell if you don't), or you can go all out and make mince pies from scratch. It's a little bit of effort, but much more satisfying than buying shop-bought mince pies.
