Making your own Christmas dessert is a great chance to show off a little. People may be a little full from the dinner but once they take a look at your amazing creation, they won't be able to resist a bite.

A Christmas pudding is the obvious choice for Christmas dessert. They do take a bit of effort to make so it's best to make sure that people are actually going to eat it before you begin. If not, another classic is a chocolate log. You could also make both - one for the traditionalists and one for the chocolate lovers.
No-bake cheesecakes are easy to make in advance and an be served straight from the fridge. You could give it a Christmas spin by topping with cranberries and a brandy cream. Another, relatively easy, option is a trifle. Layer up some of your favourite ingredients a few days before then simply produce from the fridge once everyone's ready for a sweet.
If you really want to shine you could go all out with an impressive dessert. A homemade tart will always go down well (you could cheat and buy the pastry ready made to cut corners a little). A pavlova is a another dish that has the wow factor. Leave the meringue cooking on a low heat through dinner then top with an impressive array of seasonal fruits.
