How to give a blow job

Some people find giving a blow job a little nerve-wracking and uncomfortable, but the basics of oral sex are pretty simple. Simply put his penis in your mouth and suck or lick.

Obviously, though, there are little tips and tricks you can do to make his experience totally mindblowing and make him think you're a bedroom goddess - and let's face it, that's not a bad way to be viewed by your man, is it?

Get wet

The wetter it is, the more he'll enjoy it. Try to build up loads of saliva in your mouth before you go down on him - the more lubricated he is, the better the experience.

You might want to keep a drink to hand, if you're worried you'll get a dry mouth.

Get in position

In the same way that his position can change the experience when he's going down on you, the same is true for you doing it to him.

Obviously you can let him lie down on the bed and kneel over him, but there are other positions that can work better.

The key to giving him great oral sex is to have both hands available, so why not sit on a chair or the edge of the bed and get him to stand in front of you. This also allows you to control how deep he thrusts.

Alternatively, you can try the classic submissive pose and kneel in front of him. Some people find this a little demeaning, but it does again allow you to use both hands and make the whole thing more enjoyable for him. Try some of these sex positions if you're looking for more tips.

Don't worry about the length

No matter what he may tell you, a man is most sensitive at the end of his penis and not all the way at the bottom of the shaft, so concentrate on the top 1 inch of him.

Slowly run your tongue in a circular motion around the tip of his penis and then close your lips around him and slide down - keeping your teeth well out of the way!

Now suck lightly and occasionally flick your tongue over the tip again, while moving up and down.

If you then wrap your hand lightly round his penis and move that up and down in time with your mouth, giving a slight twist, it feels great for him.

Use your hands

Hold his penis in position with your hands, rather than your mouth. Then while you're using your mouth, gently stroke his balls which should intensify what he's feeling 10-fold. And believe us, if he's enjoying it you'll know about it.

And don't just stick to touching his balls, try running the fingers of your free hand lightly over any of his erogenous zones and it will make his experience better.

Keep in rhythm

The closer he gets to orgasm, the faster you can move but make sure you don't speed up too soon and keep to a good rhythm.

Don't go so fast that you want to stop before he's finished. The trick is to speed up your hand movement rather than your mouth, because it won't hurt your neck as much, and just suck a little harder.

Blow job problems: I hate giving blow jobs!

Don't like giving blow jobs? All is not lost! We give you solutions to the most common blow job problems:

Reason: He smells

If this is a reason for not doing it, why not suggest taking a shower together first and then wash him before you get down to it.

Reason: I gag

This is all about control - and you need to have it. By using either of the positions we suggested earlier you should be able to stop him thrusting so hard.

If he tries to hold the back of your head and push you, stop immediately and tell him not to do it. That should knock that one on the head, as it were.

Reason: I don't want to swallow

Well don't! If it really does turn you off, just make sure you take your mouth away just before he has an orgasm (and it should be easy to tell when that's going to happen) and finish him off with your hand.

You could try swallowing once to see what it's like. Allow it all to collect at the back of your throat and then swallow in one go - it's only about a teaspoon's worth. It might not taste as bad as you thought.
