The Big Bang Theory star Jim Parsons has married his partner of fourteen years, Todd Spiewak.

A representative for the couple confirmed the happy news to PEOPLE magazine, with Page Six reporting that the ceremony took place at the Rainbow Room in New York City.

Jim, who plays Sheldon Cooper on the hit US TV show, first met boyfriend Todd back in 2002, on a blind date at a karaoke bar, where Todd is said to have impressed Jim with his version of 'I Found Someone' by Cher.

In November 2016, the couple celebrated their 14th anniversary together, with Jim sharing a sweet snap of the couple singing karaoke, perhaps as an homage to their earlier days of dating.

'I met this guy (the one with the mic) 14 years ago today and it was the best thing that ever happened to me, no contest,' the actor captioned the picture. 'One of his greatest gifts to me is that he no longer takes me to sing karaoke.'

'Also, I believe this was a selfie with an actual camera, as our phones couldn't do that back then hahaha!' he added.

Fans were overjoyed to hear of the couples' nupitals, with many taking to Instagram to offer their congratulations.

'Congratulations @therealjimparsons hope you two have a great married life ahead 😊' wrote one excited commenter.

'Congratulations, a long happy & healthy life together!' said another.

Jim only publicly confirmed his relationship in 2012 in a New York Times profile, by which point he and Todd had been together for 10 years already.

He says of the interview: '[The reporter] just point-blank asked, 'Was working on The Normal Heart meaningful to you as a gay man?" And I was like, "Well, yeah. Yeah."'

'And what a wonderful … I can't tell you what a wonderful thing that was, what a gift he gave me with one question. [My orientation] was suddenly out there and official.'

However, it wasn't too long ago that Jim was brushing off rumours of wedding bells.

In 2014, he told fellow LGBT TV personality Ellen DeGeneres that he had no plans to get married any time soon.

'I don't know,' he explained to Ellen at the time. 'That's a hard one. You get used to your life as it is.'
