The Lost Art of Keeping Secrets by Eva Rice

Chosen by Georgie Balmain, 32, London Georgie has been married to Alastair for six years and they have a one-year-old son, Hector. She works part time as a PA and spends her spare time cooking, reading and taking long walks.

Georgie says:
‘I was recommended this book by a friend and, although I turned my nose up a bit at the girlie cover, I was hooked after the first line and instantly transported back to the quaintness and glamour of the 1950s every time I picked it up. It centres on best friends Charlotte and Penelope, growing up in post-war Britain. They live in huge but crumbling houses, go to decadent balls and meet eccentric characters along the way. It’s so enchanting and charming in an unashamedly British way, but it’s also about love – which I’m a sucker for!’
