My sister recently had radiation therapy for breast cancer. She didn't find the treatment too bad but one side-effect was the irritated skin around her nipple, which she said was like bad sunburn. She found Aloe Vera Gelly (£10.59 for 118ml from www.aloehealthuk.com) really soothing.

The good news is there is a cream which will deaden the nerves that are causing a problem, although it is not a permanent fix, it should give you the peace you are looking for all the while the cream is applied, the bad news is I can't remember the name of the cream but I am sure your Consultant or GP would know because it probably is a common fault after surgery. I had breast cancer 6 years ago with a double mastectomy and reconstructions and I had a deliquent nerve which was driving me mad and my Consultant prescribed the cream Coming to terms and the healing process after breast cnacer treatment is a lengthy business and I am all for anything that will make the journey more comfortable. I found that the Consultant was the one who easily sovled my problems because of his wider knowledge of medicines etc. Hope this is of some help. Good luck.

I had reconstructive surgery 13 years ago following a mastectomy and, like the lady above, have had the same problems with a 'deliquent nerve' I, too, am being driven mad. I shall ask my consulatant if there is anything that can be used, even if it is a temporary fix, and get back to you.

I was operated on 21Jan008. everthing went quite well, including some fluid drains. Ihad a left mesectomy, and 15 lymthe glands under arm removed. I received my first chemo 26 march 008 with the drug herceptin, I was so ill I could hardley stand and spent most of my time in bed, I have six dogs to look after and was alone. My friend came on Tuesday 2 April, and wanted me to go back to hospital, I thought I would be o.K. But the next day she insisted and took me to hospital, first we have to go to emergy, they took x-rays and blood test after 6 hrs they said I had to be returned to the cancer hospital ( I am in Spain and this is the system). they transferred me by ambulance, I was isolated immediatley, my blood cells were so low that another day not going to the hospital would have been too late. I was so ill. Now I have a tumor bottom of my neck, and they have put me onto Xeloda tabletd 6 a day for 2 weeks 1 week rest then a blood test I am now so worried, and distessed, Is his the right treatment for me.I can not find a web to give me this info.I am 75 yrs I lost my hair on the one chemo treatment. I spend 16hrs in bed and up fpr 78 hrs I have no engery and I am tired all of the time.I do not start the tablets untill30th April008. what will I be like then. can anyone advise. or has had a bad exspirence as I have had.

8 months ritai had my operation in july and the burning sensation and itching is driving me mad.i have been told it is the nerves.i would like t know if can do anything to ease it and how long dose it last.i went to a local breast cancer meeting and all it turned out to be was a coffee morning and i wanted a bit more than that
