Scientists are developing a new contraceptive pill that can be worn as a patch and has no side effects.

The new drug will not contain hormones, which are what cause the weight gain, mood wings, nausea and high blood pressure that many women suffer with.

Unfortunately, it could take another 10 years before trials on humans being, but the scientists behind the new development are very confident.

Chief researcher Zev Williams said: "A non-hormonal approach would be wonderful."

Currently 3.5 million British women take the Pill, which is also used to regulate periods.

The new method could transform birth control, offering a completely new choice for the first time in 50 years.

The skin patch could probably be worn for a month at a time, making them easier than oral Pills that have to taken every day.
