Ref: 32 Year Old Son Hello there, I am now 20 and still have ADHD, I have gained several academic qualifications (non degree) and just need a few more ALevels in order to go to university. My uncle had just been diagnosed with ADHD aged 42, so it's more normal these days to have it in adulthood. I take an antipsychotic drug called Aripiprazole, this is not currently licenced for ADHD however, it is deemed to be appropriate by my consultant. If I were you I would insist that he goes to see a Psychiatrist as soon as he can, life is too short not to be successful and frankly it sounds as if he just needs a push in the right direction. Maybe try going along with him, I know from friends with ADHD & ASPERGERS that it is too easy being on Incapacity Benefit of Employment Support Allowance. Does he get much support from the family? i.e. yourself and siblings. I don't get a lot of support at all from my family but, I have the best fiance in the world who gives me the most support ever!! So thats my support mechanism. If thats is the case like with mine, then he will need support and lots of it, especially encouragement. Please do reply All the best Louis

please can someone help me or advse me.I have a 11 year old son who has A.D.H.D,impulsive behaviour disorder and is statmented with special needs.This weekend my new partner came to stay with his 6 and 7 year old daughters for the weekend,at 6.55 am my future 7 year old daughter came and woke me up to tell me that my 11 year old son with a.d.h.d had been in the back bedroom and had touched my 6 year old future step daughter near/on her private parts.when comfronted by his nan about it he told her that he didnt know why he did it.my and my neew partner don`t know what to do,could there be something other the A.D.H.D why he did this.they are suppose to be moving in with me next week.please can some one advice me why he might be doing this and what steps we can take to prevent this from happening again

I have a son age now 32 and he is a father but unmarried and living alone unemployed. How do you treat ADHD when the patient gets to adulthood please? My son was deemed 'special' age 6 but had only 30 mins a week special tuition at school.- has no qualliifcations, cant stick with a job very long and his only motivation in life seems to be Sex and CD's. Sex seems to be the only thing which calms him- is this condition evoked by testosterone?

I think Dr Mark Jones is just trying to sell his product. He is conducting a series of planted advertising messages such as the one below across the internet in order to promote his product. I have not found any other submissions from this contributor on any sites relating to ADHD or CBT with content which does not directly sell his product. He is not contributing feedback or research or evaluation or advice. He is using this are as a marketing and customer targeting board.

I did a web based CBT PhD to help chidlren in hospital and now mums are using it for ADHD and other issues. CBT has a good effect on children... Check out www.AnimalAgentz.com for more info. I wrote a short while ago and I did say that if psychological treatment such as Cognative Behaviour Therapy (CBT) didn't work then drugs such as Methlphenidate (Ritalin, Equasym Concerta) and Atomoxetine (Straterra) are a must, since writing that I have found out that Homeopathy remedies can work for people with ADHD. I do not know if Dr Tim Kendall would agree with this, however I my self have seen it make a huge difference with my sister Sophie who is 15. Sophie has been recently struggling at school and at home however, having said that since being treated by a homeopath (privately at quite a cost) and being given a remedie to take instead of the above mentioned drugs she has improved a great deal both at home and school. I am very stable and also doing well in my education at present, so I personally would not like to amend my medicine, however if your son or daughter is not doing that well on drugs used for ADHD, then you could possibly get homeopathy on the NHS if you ask your Gp or Consultant for a referrel. If they do refer you it may well be the case that you have to travel some distance in order to find a Medically qualified Homeopathic doctor. I have been diagnosed with ADHD, initially I was diagnosed when aged 6 years, unfortunatley when I was 14 I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder, which was incidently an incorrect diagnoses, I have just recently been diagnosed with ADHD and take Methylphenidate and Atomoxotine and this really really helps, it certainly improves my ability to concentrate and reduces physical impulses and verbal impulses I can also complete tasks in less time than before and as far as study is concerned I am a great deal better. I am hoping to be a Doctor of Medicine and I can certainly say that with out these drugs that would certainly not be possible, I have tried CBT and it has helped a fair bit, but not half as much as the drugs have. So in my opinion try Psycological treatments first, but if they don't do what you need them to do then drugs are a must.

I have a 6yr old son with ADHD, he is a fun, exciting, adventurous, confident, friendly and enthusiastic child, with a higher than average IQ. However his symptoms are frustrating, disruptive, debilitating and dangerous. I thought long and hard about medicating him, but when I did, I & he were overjoyed at the difference this made to his school life. We have not, as yet, been offered any other form of treatment - no therapies, no counselling, nothing other than methylphenidate. How can I get these alternative treatments for him? It would do me good to have some family therapy with him, as I know I don't always react appropriately, when I've told him for the umteenth time to go and clean his teeth, put his shoes on, find his coat for school etc. Our house, both mornings and evenings (before & after the effects of the medication), is at best chaotic and at worst a war zone. I need to help my son, not add to his anxiety.

my son has been hard work for about 6 years i have asked for help loads of times but just recently i have got the help ive been asking for. and what a change i have seen im my now 10 year old son.he has been easier at school since he has had his medication ritalin but at home he is just the same so now they are changing his medication to concerta.hopefully this helps the behaviour at home!!!!!!
