Houmous and carrot sandwich

1pm

'For lunch I have a low-fat chicken sandwich, low-fat fruit yogurt, a diet cola and a coffee.'

Calories: About 500

GTK says: This is a good lunch, although brown bread would've been better. And a salad or soup would lower the calorie value and increase her five-a-day. Sally needs to ditch the caffeine and drink more water too. Our body needs to be hydrated for energy, help weight loss, digestion and it helps us to feel fuller after a meal.

Calories: About 400 for vegetable soup and chicken salad with a low-fat dressing, with a low-fat fruit yogurt

3pm

'Working in a bakery means there's always temptation to eat cakes and pies. I had to cut up a big Victoria sandwich for the shoppers to taste and I couldn't resist having three small pieces myself.'

Calories: About 150

GTK says: It's totally understandable that Sally had a taster of what she was serving to customers but it's easy for one small piece to become two or three - and before you know it, you've had a big slice of Victoria sandwich!

GTK swap: Pick on a bunch of grapes if you're feeling peckish

Calories: About 40 calories

3.30pm

'Leave work and pick up the kids - pop into a coffee shop for a hot chocolate, with skimmed milk and without whipped cream.'

Calories: About 400

GTK says: The skimmed milk is good and leaving out the cream is great, but it's still 400 calories - that's nearly as much as Sally's lunch.

GTK swap: If you're trying to diet or just cut back on fat and sugar then it's best to avoid the cafe-style hot chocolates because they're high in calories. But if you need a warm drink go for a decaffeinated skinny cappuccino, around 90 calories, or a decaffeinated skinny mocha around 180 calories.

Calories: About 90 for a skinny cappuccino and about 180 for a skinny mocha

4pm

'Have a bite of the kids' chocolate bar.'

Calories: About 60

GTK says: It's good to teach kids to share but it's better for them and you to snack on fruit, raw vegetables or healthier snacks such as mini flavoured rice cakes, nuts and dried fruit.

GTK swap: Don't swap - avoid! It's these little nibbles of food that really mount up and usually you're not hungry, you just fancy it. This sort of eating can lead to bad habits. Remember the saying: Little pickers wear big knickers!

Calories: Avoid mindless snacking and drink water instead.
