How it works
The diet consists of a liquid day, an alkaline day and a protein day. Be prepared to relax as much as you can - as your energy levels will be low - and to get the maximum benefit of the diet without getting an energy crash.

Day 1: Liquid day

On waking: 500ml hot water with the juice of a lemon and 1tsp honey

 

Breakfast: 300ml fresh orange or grapefruit juice

10.00am: 500ml fresh vegetable soup or glass of semi-skimmed milk

12.00 noon: 500ml clear vegetable soup - as 10am

3.00 pm: 500ml apple juice OR skimmed milk

6.00pm: 500ml grape juice

9.00pm: 500ml warm skimmed milk with 1tsp honey OR 500ml tomato soup

Day 2: Alkaline day

On waking: 500ml hot water with the juice of a lemon and 1tsp honey

Breakfast: 300ml fresh orange or grapefruit juice, half an apple chopped with 3 prunes

10.00am: 500ml skimmed milk or apple juice

12.00 noon: 300ml green soup (e.g. asparagus) salad of raw vegetable and yogurt dressing (see below). Apple or orange

3.00 pm: 1 cup of tea or coffee, milk but no sugar

6.00pm: 300ml vegetable soup, plate of steamed vegetables or mixed salad. Apple or handful of grapes

9.00pm: 500ml apple juice or 500ml warm milk and honey

Yogurt dressing:
- 1tbs plain yogurt
- Juice of one lemon
- Paprika and black pepper, to taste
- Add chopped herbs to taste e.g. parsley, chives, dill (good with fish) tarragon (good with chicken)

 Day 3: Protein day

On waking: 500ml hot water with the juice of a lemon and 1tsp honey

Breakfast: 2 eggs, boiled, 1 Ryvita with scrape of butter. Tea or coffee, 250ml orange juice

Mid morning: Small stick (30g) cheese. Glass of water with lemon

Lunch: Slice of meat or cheese with fresh vegetables, any amount of mixed salad. Pear and handful of grapes. Tea or coffee.

Mid afternoon: Stick of cheese or 2 slices of ham with celery. Glass of water with lemon

Dinner: Steamed cod or salmon, 3-egg omelette or tofu stir-fry. Plenty of fresh vegetables or mixed salad. Fresh tomato juice or apple juice. Fruit jelly.

Where do I go from here?
You can go back to this 3-day cleanse once a month or even once a week, or any time you've overdone it, want to lose a few pounds or simply want to cleanse your system. If you want to continue the 3-day cycle permanently it's fine, but you can add:

- One glass of wine per night
- Desserts like fruit with added cream
- Cereals like muesli with nuts and dried fruits, once a day.
- Potatoes or roast potatoes
- No more than 2 slices good granary bread per day

Do not exercise during this time, except for Pilates, yoga or gentle stretching. It's the ultimate relaxation diet!
