Woman's Weekly Wellbeing: Eczema
Every week we team up with our sister magazine Woman's Weekly and look at a health condition, offering wellbeing tips and simple ways to ease the problem. This week it's eczema. Try these:
Kinesiology
A kinesiologist uses muscle testing to identify imbalances and blockages within your energy system, as these can trigger flare-ups of eczema. The treatment can range from the practitioner holding their hands in certain positions on the client's body to release a blockage in energy, to placing small weak magnets or essential oils on the body.
Try: Visit Health Kinesiology UK at www. hk4health.co.uk. Call Bob Sare on 0870 765 5980 for a local practitioner. Or contact the Kinesiology Federation on 0845 260 1094, or visit www.kinesiologyfederation.co.uk
Hypnotherapy
Hypnotherapy may not cure eczema, but it might help you cope with the pain and discomfort. Studies show the relaxation that occurs during a hypnosis session can prevent the transmission of pain signals from the brain. Some hypnotherapists may also suggest visualisation as another way of controlling your eczema - for example, imagining soldiers are arriving to fight off the eczema and then engineers coming to repair the damage to your skin.Try: National Council for Hypnotherapy. Call 0845 544 0788, or visit www.hypnotherapists.org.uk
Ayurveda
Ayurveda is based on the belief that a body in balance is healthier. Our lives are governed by three humours (doshas) - Vata, Pitta and Kapha. If Pitta is out of balance, it can lead to skin conditions, such as eczema. A practitioner may suggest detoxification, massage, meditation, dietary advice and herbal remedies.
Try: The Ayurvedic Medical Association UK. Call 020 8657 6147 for qualified practitioners.
