Casual Vacancy J K Rowling

What's The Casual Vacancy about?

The quiet village of Pagford is rocked when one of their councillors, Barry, suddenly drops dead - leaving behind a 'casual vacancy' on the council that needs an election to fill it.

Pagford is a place where everyone knows everyone else's business, but there's a lot more going on than even the biggest curtain-twitchers realise. When several villagers put themselves forward to take over Barry's place, mystery posts start appearing on the council's website (supposedly posted by Barry's ghost), revealing some things that the villagers would rather have kept a secret.

goodtoknow says: This story touches on some of the most unpleasant aspects of life, with storylines of child abuse, rape, self-harm and death - all affecting the families of Pagford. By the end you'll find yourself supporting the most unexpected characters, and you're still learning about their pasts right until the end. If you love a bit of village gossip, you'll enjoy this book.
