Book Review: Funny Peculiar by Will Young

What's it about? Funny Peculiar tells us Will's story from his days at the school he nicknamed 'Horrid Hell', to shooting to fame in Pop Idol in 2001 (the show that also brought us Darius singing Britney's 'Baby One More Time'), to now.

It's a range of emotions from the funny stories of Will's struggle to get famous (before Pop Idol he was in a band with Lee Ryan), and to his big battle with depression. What really makes this book, though, is the little everyday stories of awkward moments - like saying the wrong thing to David Beckham, trying to get the disabled row to stand up and dance at Wembley and when a class of primary school children mistakenly thought he'd killed a pigeon.

goodtoknow says: We really liked it and it made us like Will a lot too. Rather than showing off about his fame and talking endlessly about how hard he worked to get there, Will's autobiography covers some slightly more unusual topics - how to deal with the DVLA, for example, and these stories make him seem more like one of us! It's laugh out loud at some points and sad at others where you get a real insight into Will's depression, but it's still a fun, easy read.
