How to create an LA twist

What you will need

  • Curling tong
  • Volumising dust
  • Elastic

A half-up, half-down look is the perfect balance between an elegant up-do and a dramatic down-do. Whether you're going out on the town and getting dressed up or you want an extra-special day look, this style is grown up and glamorous. Often seen on A-listers like Jessica Alba, remember to keep the look on-trend by brushing out the waves so they look soft and not too over-done. And don't forget to finish with some medium-hold hairspray (not firm hold - no-one wants crispy hair!)

Step 1

Part the hair with a clean middle parting, take random sized sections and tong the hair in different directions - this will help add movement and bounce.

Step 2

Backcomb the hair slightly and shake a little volumising dust over your hair like Schwarzkopf's got2b volumising style powder (2.99) for added volume, then take a diamond-shaped section from one side of your head and split into two pieces.

Step 3

Twist each section against itself all the way to the ends of the hair.

Step 4

Wrap each twisted section around the other, leaving a little loose at the ends.

Step 5

Secure the twists with elastic, remembering to keep the twists tight as they could unravel. The hair should look relaxed so tease a few bits of hair from each braid.

Step 6

And done!
