Benefit's head make-up artist Lisa Potter-Dixon shows us how to create a no-fuss, natural, day make-up look, fast!
Running around after the kids all day, make-up’s the last thing on most of our minds. But what about a natural day look that takes five minutes tops to create? Perfect for those mornings when we need a little confidence boost! Benefit Cosmetics’ head make-up artist Lisa Potter-Dixon shows us exactly what to use, and how, to create a pretty, natural, day make-up look, in a flash…
‘A day look is all about flawless-looking skin’, Lisa says. ‘To create this, it’s all about the 3 Ps: Prep, Prime and Perfect. Start by prepping the skin with your daily moisturiser. Spend a good 30 seconds massaging it in to your skin. This will bring a natural glow to your face.’
We love Simple’s Kind To Skin Hydrating Light Moisturiser, £3.
‘Perfect the skin with foundation. Benefit’s Hello Flawless Oxygen WOW Foundation, £24.50 is definitely my favourite foundation right now. It’s hydrating and brightening, plumps up skin and is also packed with those magical anti-ageing vitamins, C and E.’
‘Everyone needs a bit of concealer. Don’t just apply it under the bottom lash line. Apply it all around the eye and on the eye lid. This will brighten the entire area, completing your flawless base.’
Look for a concealer that you can use to cover dark circles, spots and redness on the go. Bourjois’ Healthy Mix Concealer, £7.49, will sort all three in a flash without looking cakey.
‘Always remember to define your brows. The Benefit Brow Zings kit, £22.50 is perfect for giving you a fuller looking brow in seconds.’
Make eyebrow pencil part of your daily routine. Perfect eyebrows really open up the face, so you’ll instantly look younger and less tired. We use 17’s brilliant Brow Sculpting Pencil, £2.89. It comes with a handy little brush to sort stray hairs!
‘Eye make-up for day should be subtle and soft. I’ve used the pink shade from the Benefit Big Beautiful Eyes kit, £24.50. This velvet shadow has a metallic finish which gives you a slight shimmer.’
Eyeshadow palettes are a wise buy. Boots’ No.7 range has some great natural-looking eyeshadow trios for less than £10.
‘Next, pick your favourite blusher and pop a touch on the apples of your cheeks and blend upwards. I’ve used Benefit Coralista, £23.50. It’s a fresh, coral-coloured blush which is on-trend.’
It’s worth buying a good blusher brush so you get a flawless finish every time. The Body Shop’s Blusher Brush, £12, is lovely and soft.
‘To finish the look, I have used Benefit Posie Pal, £15.50. This handy combo has Posie Tint lip and cheek stain on one end and the blue California Kissing gloss on the other. Apply the tint first for a long-wearing lip colour, and then apply the gloss on top. Blue lip glosses make teeth look much whiter.’
Remember to keep lips kissable by buffing away dead skin once a week using an old toothbrush, then applying lots of lovely lip balm. Find out how to make your own lipbalm at home.
