We've found a whole host of brunette celebrities who are proving brown hair colours are just as show-stopping as any platinum blonde or fiery redhead. Get some colour inspiration from our gallery of the best brunettes...
Who says blondes have more fun? We reckon brunettes have just as much! And we’ve found a whole host of celebrities who are willing to prove brown hair colours are just as show-stopping as a platinum blonde or fiery redhead.
Are you thinking about going over to the dark side? Or want to add some excitement to your mousy brown locks? You’ll find plenty of inspiration for brown hair colours in this gallery.
The great thing about brown hair colours is that they’re relatively low maintenance, and generally tend to appear thicker and shinier than lighter colours as they reflect light and hide a multitude of sins, like over-using the straighteners!
And since Kate Middleton stepped on the scene, we’ve just become utterly obsessed with her amazing, bouncy brunette locks. We’ve never quite experienced hair envy like it!
In this gallery you’ll find a round-up of some of our best celebrity brunettes. From Kate to Cheryl, Anne Hathaway to J Lo, we never realised how many different shades of brown hair colours there were.
What do you think to these celeb brown hair colours? Which are your favourites? Let us know in our comments section below.

Ferne McCann
Welcome to the dark side, Ferne!
The reality star and former TOWIE cast member debuted her newly brunette locks on her Instagram account, captioning this snap, ‘Girl gone dark. @samantha.cusick worked her magic on my colour. With @easilockshair of course’.
‘Stunning really suits you,’ one fan wrote, whilst another agreed, ‘Wow! So beautiful x makes your skin glow – this is perfect’.
Ferne’s long brown locks are broken up with some lighter blonde highlights, making this the perfect versatile style for summer.
Looking fab, Ferne!

Katie Price
Wow! This is quite the change from Katie’s usual long blonde locks.
The mum-of-five debuted her sleek brunette bob on an episode of Loose Women, and we have to say, both the colour and sophisticated cut look fab on her, and the shoulder length style is a great versatile choice.
However, don’t expect to see Katie’s hair dark for long – it’s said that her makeover is actually a wig, so she may be back to blonde any day now.
Having previously sported grey and purple wigs on the ITV show, who knows what shade she’ll opt for next…

Lorraine Kelly
Britain’s favourite TV presenter is giving us some major hair envy!
Lorraine Kelly looked flawless as she stepped out from the ITV studios where she films her morning show, and it seems she’s the latest celebrity opting for the flattering bronde shade.
In a subtle mix of brown and blonde, following in the steps of celebs like Jennifer Aniston, Cara Delevingne and Beyonce, Lorraine’s hair was visibly lighter, giving her a more youthful look.
Her newly bronde hair was also curly, with a lot more volume than usual, a look that really suited the 55 year old.
She once said in an interview that ‘when your hair?s good, you can conquer the world’, and we guess she’s right!

Felicity Huffman
We almost didn’t recognise Desperate Housewives star Felicity Huffman when we spotted this picture of her at the Emmy Awards!
The actress, who attended the event with her husband of 18 years William H Macy, looked extremely glamorous with her new brunette hair on display, which she wore in an elegant up do.
The star has also had a soft, face-flattering fringe cut in, making her look much younger than her 52 years! Autumn is the perfect excuse to warm up your hair shade and go for a gorgeous brown colour – we’ll be taking a picture of Felicity to the shops next time we’re choosing a new hair dye to try at home!

Christina Aguilera
Wow, how different is Christina’s look compared to her usually bright blonde do? The singer shared this pic on her Instagram debuting her new darker style while filming for a TV appearance.
Christina is a style chameleon and often changing her look, and we love this new shade on her!

Claudia Winkleman
Wow, what a difference ditching a fringe can make!
Claudia has always been one of our absolute favourite brunette ladies – we love everything about her, from her fun presenting style on Stricty to her fabulous fashion sense!
And it seems the 42-year-old star has turned her back on her trademark fringe in favour of a side-swept style for a trip to the London Fashion Week front row. If you’re going through the tricky trauma of growing out a fringe, styling it to the side like Ms Winkleman is a great way to keep your locks out of your eyes and look ever so stylish too!

Michelle Dockery
While you might think that pale people can’t do dark, Michelle’s proof that that’s certainly not the case! Her darkest of dark shade of brown looks great in contrast to her dark complexion and really compliments her dark eyes.
Michelle’s tone is a very dark ash brown, in fact, it’s almost black.

Kate Middleton
Oh Kate. How we do wish we had your luscious locks. While Kate’s been known to vary the shade of her hair from time to time, she’s truly a brunette through and through.
You may remember her hair being quite a dark shade of brown at the royal wedding, but more recently she’s lightened it up a little with some honey-toned highlights, which look lovely when they catch the light!

Jessica Alba
Jessica Alba’s light brown hair colour really flatters her olive skintone. It’s full of gold tones and a few subtly blended caramel highlights which make it look as though she’s been spending some time in the sun!
This colour perfectly flatters her hazel eyes, too.

Tulisa’s been back and forth between blonde and brunette, but it looks like she’s settled for brown, for now at least.
Tulisa’s deep mahogany brown has been highlighed with some golden brown, bordering-on-blonde highlights. They’re quite streaky and are very noticeable around the root giving a more obvious splash of colour.

Myleene Klass
Myleene Klass must have been every shade of brown now! In 2013 we’ve seen her trying out the dip-dyed look, with the hair from the roots a dark chestnut brown, with auburn tones through the mid-lengths and ends.
This look is a great one for people who aren’t daring enough to stray too far from their usual hair colour but fancy a change. A subtle dip dye can achieve that!

Michelle Keegan
We’re so envious of Michelle’s luscious brown locks! Whilst her shade of brown has changed very slightly over the years, she tends to stick to a dark, auburn brown. The subtle red tones in this colour are really flattering as it warms up the complexion and enhances her eyes.
Auburn tones give the hair a richer, more glamorous feel.

Katie Price
Katie Price’s hair has been through more transformations than we can keep track of! But one thing’s for sure, she’s never without her trusty extentions.
From being known as a blonde bombshell throughout her early modelling career, in recent years Katie has been a brunette more than a blonde, she even had her dark eyebrows tattooed on!
Here, Katie’s opted for a dark ash brown with some streaky honey highlights. We have to say we prefer the model dark than blonde.

Courteney Cox
Courteney Cox has barely changed since her Friends days. The actress’s trademark black hair always looks super glossy and sleek. In this picture it even looks like it’s got some slightly blue tones in it too, very rock chick!

Alesha Dixon
Our favourite Britain’s Got Talent judge has really perfected her shade of brown recently. Throughout her career Alesha’s tended to opt for very dark shades of brown, at times black. But we think this shade really suits her. The mid-lengths have a tint of auburn brown colour, which works great on this length of cut and really compliments her warm complexion.

Cheryl Cole
Surely the queen of big brunette hair? Cheryl’s been through quite the hair journey through the years but she never seems to stay away from her big, chocolate brown hair extentions for long, (think the Loreal Elvive advert in 2009).
Cheryl appeared at the Cannes Film Festival in 2013 with a newly highlighted look. The stars hair is a chocolate brown but with some golden highlights around the top and a more honey brown colour weaved into the ends.
A nice option for someone who wants to lighten their hair but doesn’t want to go blonde.

Victoria Beckham
Victoria has got easy-to-wear brunette down to a tee. Her hair has a deep, dark brown base, while the mid-lengths and hairs around her face have been lightened with warm honey tones.
This is the sort of brunette tone that anyone can pull off, as it’s perfectly balanced between dark and light brown, all skin tones can carry this one.

Kelly Brook
We love Kelly’s take on the dip-dye trend. Her skin tone is quite fair, and her mahogany coloured roots are softened and warmed up by the chestnut and honey tones running through the ends of her hair.
Want to copy this look? Ask your colourist to lift your mid-length end ends a few shades lighter than your roots.

Anne Hathaway
Anne Hathaway pulls off brown perfectly. Her colouring is simple, sophisticated and not over-done.
The auburn tone warms up her skin tone and really flatters her hazel eyes.

Jennifer Lopez
J Lo has got a lot of different colours going on here! From mid-brown, to caramel to honey tones, she’s practically blonde in some places! We think she pulls it off well though.
If you’re looking at being light brown and bordering-on-blonde, then this could be the look for you. Start with a light brown base, adding caramel and honey coloured highlights to the ends of your layers.

Emma Watson
We absolutely love Emma Watson’s hair colour. Somewhere between honey brown and strawberry blonde, it’s an unusual shade but one that compliments her dainty features.
Sticking to a general colour like this instead of opting for a variety of higlights and tones looks great on a simpler, shorter cut.

Penelope Cruz
Penelope’s relaxed, beachy-brown hair colour really suits her. The sandy coloured highlights add warmth to her hair, but it’s so finely done it won’t leave her with a major root problem if she lets the colour grow out. We like!

Pippa Middleton
Pippa’s hair is a classic shade of natural brunette, in fact, we’re not sure whether Pippa has her hair coloured at all, and if she does, her colourist is a genius at creating the ‘natural look’.
A dark chocolate brown, there are some discreet lighter tones in the underneaths and midlengths of her hair, that look like natural highlights.

Eva Longoria
Eva Longoria’s olive skin in complimented perfectly by these honey-gold highlights around her face.
The highlights give a real healthy, sun-kissed glow to her hair.

Beyonce Knowles
One of the fiercest brunettes we know, in recent years Beyonce has dabbled with a bit of blonde colouring too.
This look is almost a reverse dip-dye! Starting light from the roots and graduating into a rich brown at the ends, we think Queen Bey suits this sandy coloured style.

Brooke Vincent
We think we just found a new celeb hair crush! This long mane of auburn and rich brown tones is glossy enough to rival even Kate Middleton’s bouncy locks.
The subtle light and auburn tones in Brooke’s medium brown hair give it a really warm, natural looking glow.

Katie Holmes
Possibly our favourite chocolate brown. Whilst her hair has been all sorts of lengths over the years, Katie’s always stayed loyal to her brunette colouring.
We love the rich dark chocolate colour she’s gone for here, with some subtle red tones that really bring out her eyes.

Angelina Jolie
Angelina’s hair is the perfect honey brown. Subtle gold and honey highlights on a medium brown base look really natural on her, and the lighter tones give her hair real shine.
This colour could be quite a tricky one to pull off, Angelina’s striking features keep it from being boring, but those of us not so blessed with show-stopping beauty might have to rely on a bit more of a variation of highlights to keep it from washing us out.
