Great British Bake Off star Ruby Tandoh caused quite a stir when she entered the tent in 2013 with her model looks and mop of curly hair.
But it’s because of this very reason Ruby has decided to go for a drastic new look. She shared this beautiful picture on her Twitter and Instagram accounts first titling it ‘do what you want’ before going on to explain, ‘I realised I was always hiding behind my big mop of hair and pulling it
over my face so I was like… bye curls, hello being unapologetic.’
We think Ruby can carry off any look!
Geordie Shore star Charlotte Crosby has given us a glimpse at her real hair – short, and very blonde!
The reality star is known for her long, sleek blonde locks, but in the snap she shared with her 5 million Instagram followers she showed what her real hair looks like before the extensions are added in.
She posted the picture with a caption saying: ‘My real hair is REAL short and extra blonde but sssshhhh #nomakeup #nohair’
She then went on to show other images of her longer extensions. We think Charlotte’s no make up and no hair extensions look really suits her!
We’ve been used to seeing the former Steps star rocking a blonde bob for a while, but now Claire Richards has gone one step further with a short cropped cut!
The mum of two posted the snap to show off her new look to her Instagram account with the caption: ‘Really weird angle! Makes my head look odd but not good at this selfie business! Thankyou again @jamiestevens7 Charlie says I only kind of look like a boy, and that the back is brownish grey! #complimentsfroma9yearold!’
Claire, who’s famously yo-yo dieted over the years, is looking better than ever. We absolutely love her short new look, which she can wear slightly messy or sleek and straight. If you fancy copying Claire’s look make sure you take a pic next time you visit the hairdressers!
Katherine’s wavy blonde locks have become something of a trademark for the Knocked Up actress, which is why they were so surprised when she unveiled this dramatic short makeover on her Instagram account.
The 37-year-old, who is mum to daughters Nancy and Adalaide, has gone for a mohawk-esque look with shorter sides and a curly finish. And we have to say, she totally pulls it off!
What do you think of Katherine’s new look? Are you tempted to follow in her footsteps? Leave us a comment below and let us know your thoughts.
It’s official, Emma Watson can pull off any hairstyle and still look flawless!
While out and about in London with friends, Emma showed off her latest look with a side-sweeping fringe and choppy shoulder-length hairstyle.
We saw she had a side fringe cut in at the Colonia film premier in Berlin a couple of weeks ago after she shared a snap with her Instagram followers.
But now we’ve seen the full extent of her hair transformation.
Since her Hermione Granger days, Emma has tried and tested a whole range of hairstyles, from long-flowing locks to pixie cuts. But we think her latest look perfectly suits her sharp-suited style and we hope it’s here to stay!
Only 24 hours after shocking us with her latest shoulder-length hairstyle, Katie has done it again!
Clearly smitten with her new shorter-do, the Loose Women panelist has returned to the hairdresser to go for the full chop.
She revealed the full extent of the transformation to her 890k Instagram followers, who are already gushing with praise about how youthful the new style makes the former-glamour model look.
Being a mum to five children means Katie doesn’t have much time for everyday maintenance so this choppy textured bob is a great choice for getting out the door quickly – forget hours spent putting in fake extensions!
We love it Katie!
At the start of a new year, it’s always tempting to opt for a brand new hairstyle to update your look, and it seems Alesha Dixon is no expection to the rule!
The singer is back to work as a judge on Britain’s Got Talent, and decided to start the new year right by upgrading her look and joining the many celebrities who are going for the chop.
Debuting her glamorous hairstyle on the Britain’s Got Talent red carpet in Liverpool, Alesha showed off her new platinum blonde bob and the colour certainly looks great on her!
She also shared a photo of the new look on Instagram, with the caption: ‘Do blondes have more fun? We will see! #newyear #newchop’.
We don’t know about that Alesha, but we’re loving the new look!
After teasing fans with a photo of quite a bit of cut hair on the floor, the ex-member of pop band Hear’Say finally showed the final result of her new style, and doesn’t she look flawless?
The 37 year old debuted her new look on Instagram just before attending the Star Wars: The Force Awakens European premiere in London, where she was lucky enough to get snaps with the likes of Mark Hamill, who plays Luke Skywalker, and Star Wars creator George Lucas.
Myleene went a few inches shorter than her previous style to sport a trendy bob, following the trend started by celebs like Khloe Kardashian, Jennifer Lawrence and Taylor Swift.
The former The One Show presenter has been busy promoting her new lingerie collection for Littlewoods, which features a very risque lace onesie that the mother-of-two modeled herself.
Not surprisingly, the singer’s mum was not impressed with her daughter’s daring new look.
‘Errr…judging from the text my mum just sent me, I think I can expect big nana pants instead of socks this Xmas’, Myleene tweeted.
Lace onesie or not, we love Myleene’s flattering sharp hairstyle!
Earlier this year Rita Ora went in for the chop, with her hairdresser revealing at the time; ‘I was talking to Rita about chopping her hair for a year, but it was about finding the right time.’
But since then, with her weekly appearances on the X Factor and daily social media updates – where Rita wears a combination of wigs and weaves to achieve long and flowing locks – we had forgotten that underneath all that her natural hair is still in a pixie style!
On Wednesday night she visited Pizza Express in Notting Hill with her sister, and decided to ditch the high maintenance wigs and go back to basics.
Stick with it Rita, we love it!
She’s done it again! Jessie J has gone back to a shaven head, two years after famously cutting off her locks in aid of Comic Relief in 2013.
The singer, 27, posted a selection of snaps on her Instagram account to show off her newly-shorn, peroxide blonde crop.
‘I’m so happy in my life. I hope you are too,’ she wrote in the caption for this pic.
Whilst we’re not sure if we’re brave enough to follow in her footsteps, we think Jessie looks great with her new short style. Would you ever take the plunge and copy her look?
X Factor judge Rita is no stranger to a daring new look, and it seems like the star was in the mood to go a little (ok, quite a lot) shorter with her latest hairstyle.
The blonde singer took to Twitter to show off her new hair, captioning the photo: ‘Behind the Scenes selfie at the @ElleCanada shoot! @rimmellondoncan #ElleCanadaRita #RitaOraXRimmel’
Rita also opted for a jagged full fringe which suits her features perfectly. We’re not sure we could pull off this look, but we love it!
We’re not used to seeing Scary Spice with her hair this short – in fact the America’s Got Talent judge is rarely seen without her flowing locks! And now she’s updated her look with a sideswept fringe, which perfectly frames her face.
The star posted the snap to her Instagram account to show off her brand new lashes, with the caption: ‘Thank you Lovely lashes from my friends @gopriv’
It’s been reported that Mel has just been told she won’t be appearing in this year’s X Factor judging line up, with Simon giving her seat to popstar Rita Ora instead.

Is that you Sheridan?!
The 33-year-old star has gone for a drastic new look following her longer, blonde style, debuting a short dark crop on the BAFTA red carpet. Although she missed out on the Best Leading Actress award for her portrayal of Cilla Black, Sheridan was certainly a winner in the hairstyle stakes.
We absolutely love her black pixie cut, which perfectly frames her facial features.
Can you believe Helen Mirren is 69? The star was spotted looking incredible in a figure-hugging red dress and rocking a sleeker short hairstyle for the GQ Men Of The Year Awards in London.
We absolutely love Helen’s cut because it’s just so versatile and always looks healthy – whether she’s giving it some body and creating texture or going for a sleeker natural look like this.
We can’t think of someone more fitting of the title ‘fiery redhead’ than Mrs O, and her short cropped style certainly doesn’t fade into the background when it comes to being noticed! We love her short cut, especially the waves she’s added to the longer sections. Getting layers cut in is a great way to make sure your hair keeps some shape as it grows out too.
From her spot on the Loose Women panel, Lisa has been giving us some serious hair envy! If you’re hesitant to lose too much length but want a shorter updated style, then Lisa’s layered blonde cut could be perfect for you.
How stylish does Judi’s short hairstyle look? It can sometimes feel overwhelming to think of a hairstyle that would suit someone in their 60s, 70s and beyond, but Judi proves that a fresh and simple cut can really update your whole look, not to mention how much easier this would be to style every day.
Popstar Jessie J has worked many (many!) hairstyles in her time, but this short hairstyle has to be amongst our favourites. It’s so simple, easy to maintain and style, and it would look great at any age. While the colour might not be for you, this short pixie cut would work with your natural hair colour for a great short style.
The best thing about Jennifer’s hair is that although the star is young, her fresh and stylish pixie cut would look great at any age. Wear it smooth and sleek or rough it up like Miss Lawrence has with some styling wax, such as Alberto VO5 Texture Creme Wax (£3.89).
Jennifer sure knows how to work a pixie crop, we just love her simple but stylish look. The shorter layers and shaping around the face is really flattering, definitely a style to print out and take along to the hairdressers if you’re after a new short cut!
Few work the shorter locks quite as well as Helen Mirren. She always manages to make her short style look red-carpet ready and we love the angled cut she’s gone for here. If you have short hair but feel like it’s lacking some life, then this is a great way to update your look and freshen your face!
Doesn’t Fern look lovely? Her shorter blonde locks really flatter the tv presenter’s face and the framing fringe is a great trick to soften features and disguise unwanted wrinkles. By keeping her hair just to her shoulders, Fern’s short hairstyle will be easy to manage and style in the mornings. We love it!
Talk about a glam hairstyle! Emma’s blonde bombshell shorter cut suits her down to the ground, and just goes to show how a short style can be glammed up for a night out with a bit of extra care when it comes to blow drying. If your hair is in need of a revamp then Emma’s short cut could be just the style for you.
We absolutely love Anne’s grown-out pixie cut. And doesn’t the colour look gorgeous too?
This is a great fuss-free option if you’re thinking of going for the chop and want a look you can style easily everyday. While we can’t imagine Anne rushing to pick the kids up from school, hanging the washing out and get dinner ready all at the same time, we think this hair would work for those of us that do!
That’s a drastic change! Remember Dr Who’s assistant Amy Pond? We barely recognised her without her fiery red locks.
The usually long haired actress has shaved all her hair off for a part in a new Marvel film, in which she plays a super-villainess.
We think she’s very brave!
Do you think you could ever shave your head like Karen of Jessie J? Let us know in our comments section below.
Unlike lots of other celebs who chop and change their hairstyles like there’s no tomorrow, Jennifer Aniston is one of the few who seems to stick to one, failsafe, signature style.
So we’re guessing you’ll be as shocked as we were to see her appearing in our short hairstyles gallery, without her usual pristine sleek blonde hair!
But don’t be fooled, she’s actually wearing a wig for a part in a new film called ‘Squirrels to the Nuts’.
We think she’d be nuts to ever cut her hair like this, we much prefer her as the long haired Jen we know and love!
We’ve seen this look before! The Kosovan-born singer is known for her outlandish outfits and animated stage performances, but this sleek hairstyle is cool, classy and sophisticated, and a tried and tested look by celebs like Danni Minogue and Emma Watson.
Rita’s short hairstyle has simply been slicked back with a fine comb to give this neat, minimal-effort look. Perfect for the red carpet as it will hardly take any time at all!
Want to copy the look? Get a good styling gel, like Schwarzkopf’s 2.0 gel, apply to the palms of your hands and smooth over the tops of your hair. Use a fine comb to comb the gel through the lengths of the hair from root to tip.
Keira Knightley has the perfect face for a short cut. In fact, we think she could go even shorter than this. Her defined cheek bones and jaw line are flattered perfectly by this graduated bob, which has been styled to curl gently around her jaw. But we love that the actress hasn’t made it look to harsh by being to straight or precise, but instead kept it relaxed and slightly fluffy.
Very Victoria Beckham!
Hollywood beauty Charlize is another celebrity who took the plunge and shaved her head for a film role. We think you’ll agree though that she looks absolutely amazing.
We love the textured layering and side parting on this crop, and she’s even added some lift in the front with a small quiff. Very chic!
American actress Evan Rachel Wood looks so chic with this gorgeous short hairstyle. Prior to her short locks she always had long, blonde hair, but we think this shorter style is so grown up and sophisticated.
The length is perfect for Evan’s face shape, as it shows off her strong jawline and flatters her pretty face. We love the swept-over side parting too!
Emeli Sande just wouldn’t be the same without her gravity-defying bleached blonde quiff. It has to be one of the most unusual short hairstyles we’ve seen but she seems to pull it off with such ease that it just looks right!
Emeli’s cut is shaved at the sides and back and has been left to grow long on top. We’d love to see what it looks like when she’s just got out of the shower!
We’re sure you remember when Jessie famously shaved her head for Comic Relief earlier in 2013. But it seems the singer has really embraced her short look.
Jessie J’s hair has had its fair share of transformations over the years but really her trademark look has always been a short black bob and blunt fringe. But the singer’s gone in the complete opposite direction, and rather than running squealing to the hairdressers for some urgent extentions, the singer seems to really like her shaved head, a few weeks after having it done, she dyed it bleach blonde, and it’s remained the same ever since!
Miley Cyrus really has grown up since her Hannah Montana days! The actress ditched her good girl image when she stepped out with this edgy short, bleached cut.
The star went from having girl-next-door flowing dark locks, to a mid-length cut, to this dramatic short gelled style. We have to say it’s pretty cool and we like how very far it is from her old style. We think she’s a bit of a punk at heart. This kind of hairstyle is bound to capture people’s attention!
Lady Mary! We wouldn’t expect anything less from our favourite member of period drama society. Michelle’s short cut is casual, effortless and feminine.
It’s just the right length to flatter her high cheekbones, with some added texture and messiness that doesn’t make it look too formal.
Gorgeous actress Natalie Portman shaved her head for her role in the film V for Vendetta. Previous to the film Natalie had always had long, flowing locks, but we think she embraced the shorter style perfectly, with this slightly wavy flapper-style look.
Natalie said at the time that after all the crazy hairstyles she’d had to endure for other films, (think Star Wars!), it was ‘quite liberating to have no hair’, brave lady!
In-keeping with her name, British singer Pixie has been a fan of a short hairstyle since she shot to fame in 2009.
We love her take on a bob, long enough to sit prettily around the ears, with lots of volume on top and soft curls around the side of her face. Very 50s!
Rihanna has never been one to do things by halves. After experimenting with red and bleach blonde longer styles, now she’s gone for an edgy black crop. Whilst the cut is very short, we think it really flatters Rihanna’s face. Plus, it’s nice to see her back to her dark roots again. We bet her hair will be enjoying the break from all the different colours she’s been trying this year!
Let’s face it, she’d still look pretty good if she shaved it all off!
Not everyone would be quite so brave, but Anne Hathaway has gone for a bold chop. The dramatic haircut is for her role in the film version of Les Miserables. Playing a French factory worker who sells her hair to make ends meet meant Anne had little choice but to cut off her gorgeous locks.
While we might not all be quite so willing to change our tresses so dramatically, we have to admit the pixie crop is growing on us!
She may not have picked up an Oscar at this year’s Academy Awards – but Michelle has still won plenty of admiring glances for her chic, short crop.
The My Week With Marilyn star has been sporting her current look since May 2010 when she debuted the elfin style on the red carpet at Cannes. ‘I’ve really grown into it,’ Michelle says. ‘I feel like myself with short hair.’
Following her best-forgotten ‘wilderness years’, tabloid regular Kerry made her red carpet comeback sporting a versatile blonde crop that could be worn in plenty of different ways to keep the paparazzi happy.
Most recently, she’s been working a graduated bob with side parting. It’s bang-on-trend and is pretty easy to maintain. Celebrity hair guru Daniel Galvin was the stylist responsible for Kerry’s original short crop.
Former Coronation Street star Helen underwent a radical style transformation during a three-month break from the soap early last year.
Having chopped off her shoulder-length brown tresses, she was spotted sporting an eye-popping bleached blonde pixie cut instead. Back on the cobbles later in the summer, Helen turned brunette again, but kept her edgy hairstyle. ‘I think I felt a bit more girlie when I was blonde, and then when I went back to dark, I kind of felt a bit sexier,’ she says.
Hollywood favourite Cameron has experimented with lots of different hair lengths and colours over the years – but she definitely seems to be on to a style-winner with her latest oh-so-versatile bob.
It’s not as super-short as some of the cuts we’ve been admiring – but Cameron’s crop is the perfect compromise if you’re concerned about chopping off too much of your hair at once. The style can be worn slicked-back, tousled or simply as-it-falls – so take your pick!
Oscar nominee Viola chose to go wig-free and show off her low-maintenance natural hairstyle with pride at the recent Essence Black Women in Hollywood luncheon, as well as the Academy Awards ceremony itself.
The actress credited her husband Julian Tennon with giving her the confidence to leave her wig at home. She says: ‘He said, ‘If you want to wear it for your career, that’s fine – but in your life, wear your hair. Step into who you are.’ Wise words, Julian – particularly as Viola’s powerful cut helped her stand out in the sea of typical up-dos on the red carpet.
British actress Tilda has tried plenty of different hair colours – but she’s always kept her tresses fairly short to complement her trademark androgynous look.
But like so many of the celebrities featured in our gallery, Tilda proves that going short on top doesn’t mean you have to go short on new styling ideas. Most recently, she sported a ‘flouncy Bowie quiff’ – the work of celebrity hairdresser Sam McKnight – at the Bafta Film Awards. ‘A little softness can transform a sharp silhouette dramatically,’ Sam says. ‘And Tilda always looks so damn cool.’
While others seem to change their hairstyles every time they step out on the red carpet, Hollywood superstar Halle has clearly found a low-maintenance but high-glamour style that works for her – and stuck with it.
Halle’s perfect pixie cut works well for everyday – but she knows how to dress it up for big occasions, with statement accessories such as huge earrings or gorgeous headbands. Want to copy the spiky look? Simply rub a large dollop of sculpting serum into your hands then work through your tresses – first with your fingers then with a brush. Allow hair to dry naturally.
Unlike many of today’s pop princesses who wouldn’t dream of being seen without their extensions, The Saturdays star Frankie has always opted for a shorter ‘do.
And last summer, she waved goodbye to her signature graduated bob and was seen sporting an even-shorter-than-before cut that drew immediate comparisons with Victoria Beckham’s famous elfin ‘do of 2008. However, Frankie softened the look with plenty of volume and a longer fringe. Nice work, Ms Sandford!
Talent show queen Dannii loves trying out new hairstyles. Indeed her ever-changing ‘dos were just as much of a talking point as her amazing frocks during her stint on The X Factor.
Most recently, however, she’s been showcasing a cute style that can easily be slicked-back for a fashion-forward, futuristic look if the occasion requires. Dannii says: ‘With [baby son] Ethan and my work commitments, I don’t have time to spend hours on my hair every morning, but I still wanted a style I can glam up when I have to dress up for events.’
