Former EastEnders actress and Celebrity MasterChef winner Nadia Sawalha has shed a quarter of her body weight in just four months. Here, she reveals to Woman’s Own how she dropped from a size 18 to a toned size 10- and why she won’t lose any more weight…
You must be thrilled with your new figure…
Yes! I’ve transformed myself. I’ve lost 3 1/2st. I’m 5ft 6in and went from 12st 3lb to 9st 6lbs in about 4 months. It’s the thinnest I’ve ever been.
What made you lose weight?
I have thought to myself, ‘Why didn’t I do it earlier?’ I don’t think women should be slaves to the scales, but I was desperately in denial. I was getting to the top of stairs and found myself out of breath. I’m an older mum to two young girls, so I wanted to feel fit and healthy rather than simply be thin.
How did you lose the weight?
Exercise! For ages I’d kept saying, ‘I haven’t got time to work out because I’ve got two children, a job, a husband and a business.’ But you’re just lying if you say you can’t find three hours a week to exercise. That’s the minimum I do now.
Did you diet, too?
Not dieting in the ‘low fat, low sugar’ sense, but I did change what I ate. I’ve adapted my cooking so it’s healthier but just as tasty. I eat everything I want, apart from rubbish!
Are you hoping to lose more weight?
No way! I’m 46 and I’d look like death if I lost any more. To be honest, I don’t want to do a Hannah Waterman.
