How do celebs like Kimberley Walsh, Beyonce and Cheryl Cole keep their skin glowing? Follow our good skin guide and you'll notice an improvement in just 2 weeks.
Daily: Prevention is better than cure, so begin by keeping your skin clean. This means remembering to take your make-up off last thing at night, no matter how late you stayed out last night. Stick to a good cleansing routine which incorporates a cleanser and toner morning and night.
Daily: Don’t squeeze that spot! The chances are you’ll spread the infection and as a result you will have two spots instead of one and possible scarring. Squeezing spreads the infection as the applied pressure bursts the contents of the follicle into the surrounding tissue and follicle.
Daily: Don’t cake your face in make-up, however strong the temptation. Too much slap will only make you look worse, not better. If you can’t leave the house without a full face on, try mixing your daily foundation with moisturiser to give it a lighter consistency. Or, skip foundation altogether and just use a bit of concealer and bronzer to give you a healthy flush.
Daily: Celebs swear by sleep for beautiful skin so go to bed an hour earlier than you normally would for two weeks, and see the difference it makes to your skin and overall sense of well being. If you can’t manage an hour earlier, even half an hour extra sleep will make a difference to your skin tone.
Daily: Use a moisturiser to keep your skin smooth. You don’t need to fork out for an expensive one – Cheryl Cole uses E45 cream which you can buy from just £2! Cheryl told a magazine: ‘My skin can get very dry so I use E45 moisturiser. You don’t have to use mega-expensive products, you just need to find the right products for your skin type.’
Weekly: Swap steaks and burgers – which can generate free radicals – for chicken or fish, which have nourishing essential fatty acids. Easy chicken recipes
Daily: Beyonce, Alesha Dixon and Jennifer Lopez all have amazing skin, but they don’t spend a fortune on expensive products. They all swear by Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula body moisturiser,£3.99 to keep their skin feeling and looking smooth, soft and gorgeous every day!
Whenever you have a breakout: Girls Aloud singer and Strictly Come Dancing celeb, Kimberley Walsh doesn’t go anywhere without her trusty little pot of Sudocrem Antiseptic Healing cream, £1.99. ‘Cheryl [Cole] and I put Sudocrem on our spots before we go to bed’, she revealed. So now we know why the celeb best friends always look so gorgeous!
Daily: Try plain yogurt for breakfast every morning, or swap your afternoon snack for a pot of yogurt. It’s really good for the skin – the bacteria it contains regulates your skin’s pH balance, making it glow. Here are some great yogurt recipes.
Daily: Caffeine isn’t good for the skin so swap your morning coffee for green tea or hot water with honey and lemon to help digestion. Free radicals (‘bad’ molecules which age your skin by attacking collagen and elastin), are caused in part by caffeine. Green tea contains polyphenols, which help destroy them.
Once a week: Apply a mask that contains deep-cleansing clay to draw out dirt. Or, make your own at home – mix yogurt and egg whites together and put on your face to moisturise and soothe skin.
Twice weekly: Use an exfoliator. This will keep the skin follicles free of congestion. Buy one that preferably contains Hydroxy Acids, in particular Salicylic acid as it’s great for decongesting the skin. Try Simple’s Oil Balancing Exfoliating Wash (£3.99; boots.com)
Daily: We’re always being told to drink 8 glasses of water a day – one of its many benefits is that it’ll help to keep your skin clear by flushing out toxins. So make an effort to drink a bit more and you’ll soon notice the benefits.
Daily:It goes without saying that we should cleanse our skin on a daily basis, but ifyou suffer from sensitive skin, you have to be extra careful about what bodywash you go for.
