The victim of an acid attack, Katie Piper has learned to be truly happy again by putting the past behind her and being positive about life. Here's how she did it...
Even in the face of the cruellest internet trolls, Katie has something positive and inspirational to say.
She shared this picture of a Facebook post featuring her image, and labelling it ‘terrifying’, on her Instagram account, with the caption:
‘For some people social media doesn’t feel like interacting with real people. 99% of the time I think before I hit post and often delete before I post. If it isn’t how you would conduct your self face to face offline then don’t post it’.As the old adage goes, if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all – well done to Katie for rising above the nastiness and dishing out a reminder that everyone needs from time to time.
A truly inspiring celeb, Katie Piper
was the victim of an acid attack a few years ago. Since then she has
shown that with love, support, self-belief and a positive mental
attitude, life does get better. Katie’s since written a positive thinking
book, Start Your Day With Katie (Quercus, £9.99).
In it she shares the positive thoughts that helped her overcome her
attacks, along with her favourite inspirational quotes, so everyone can
start the day with a smile…

Surround yourself with good people
‘The best friends are the ones who love you just as you are, whatever your situation’, Katie says.
Be more positive now:
Let go of negative people who put you or others down. They’re not worth
worrying about. Instead, spend time with people who make you feel good
about yourself by being supportive, listening to your troubles then
giving practical advice and making you laugh, however tough life gets.

Do what’s right for you
‘Open doors; don’t wait for them to open. Climb over obstacles, don’t wait for them to move’, Katie says.
Be more positive now:
Think about what you really want out of life. Maybe you’d like to start
your own business while the kids are at school, or do a course. Don’t
waste time dwelling on the past, go out and there and achieve your
dreams, for you!

Believe in yourself
‘Have faith in yourself and you can overcome anything’, Katie says.
Be more positive now:
Next time you start being hard on yourself, or doubt that you can do
something, think of everything that you’ve already achieved in life.
Tell yourself one nice thing about you every day too – it’s a great
confidence booster.

Love yourself and others
‘Be generous with your love and you will feel it returned tenfold’, Katie says.
Be more positive now:
Spread a little love. Life really is too short to fall out with people,
or not be honest about you feel. Try to be kind to everyone you meet.
Tell the people closest to you just how much they mean every day too.

Be you!
‘We are more than how we look, and more than the things that we own. Our
souls are beautiful, and we all have a part to play in this exciting
world’, Katie says.
Be more positive now:
Everyone is different, that’s why the world is so interesting. Next
time you’re feeling down about your weight, or are feeling frumpy in
that dress, think about your best friend. Are you just friends with her
for the way she looks or what she owns? Of course not, she’s your best
friend because she’s a beautiful person, inside and out. So are you.

Live in the moment
‘Why rush forward to the future when there is so much to appreciate
today? Stop, look around you and decide that today you will only see
those things that are positive in your life. The bad can wait for
another day’, Katie says.
Be more positive now:
Lots of us struggle to live in the moment when we’re worrying about
money or our kids’ futures, but let go a little. Being positive is about
learning to enjoy life by making the best of what you have right now.
Who knows what tomorrow might bring? The chances are it won’t be as bad
as you think.

Only you can control how you feel
‘You can be as happy as you allow yourself to be’, Katie says.
Be more positive now:
See the past as something that has shaped who you are but doesn’t have
to make today miserable. You’re in charge of the way you feel right now,
so do little things that make you happy (and don’t cost a penny) – go
for a walk, hug your kids, share a joke with your hubby, read a book or
catch up with your best friend.

Feel content
‘If you don’t have the best of everything, make the best of everything you have’, Katie says.
Be more positive now:
Don’t be jealous of other people’s lives. Although Facebook might make
you think otherwise, nobody has a perfect life, not even your favourite
celebrity. Happy people just make the best of what they’ve got rather
than worrying about what’s missing, or bitching about other people.

Do it your way!
‘Life doesn’t come with an instruction booklet, so write your own!’, Katie says.
Be more positive now:
Don’t live with regrets. Follow your heart and go for it. You might
make mistakes along the way, but that doesn’t matter. Just stay true to
yourself.
