A woman has hit back at H&M for their ‘ridiculous’ sizing, after struggling to fit her size 12 figure into a dress labelled as a size 16.
Student Lowri Byrne took to the brand’s Facebook page to voice her complaint, explaining that she ‘could barely breathe’ in the outfit she’d tried on, despite it being two sizes bigger than her usual dress size.
‘Please sort your sizes out because this is absolutely ridiculous!,’ she wrote in the post, alongside a selection of images of herself in the tight-fitting off-the-shoulder garment.
‘I’m a size 12 and small busted and today in a H&M store I had to ask if this dress came in a size 18 (it didn’t…). The dress I have on in these photos is a size 16, and I could barely breathe. Not only was this annoying because I wanted to buy this dress, but so many women take what size dress they buy to heart. If I was one of these girls (thankfully I’m not) requesting a size 18 dress would seriously devastate me!’
‘When I asked if this dress came in a 18 the store assistant said "ahh yeah you have to go up a couple of sizes with these". A couple?!? going up 3-4 sizes surely should make you realise that you need to seriously sort out sizing!!!’

It would appear that Lowri is not the only one who has encountered this issue, as her post has since been shared more than 2,000 times, and received hundreds of comments from women who are also unhappy with the fit of H&M’s offerings.
‘I’m ‘too fat’ for this shop because of the sizing… it’s ridiculous and a big problem for influential young girls,’ one agreed. ‘It could have awful affects to some girls confidence.’
‘This annoys me so much! H&M sizing is ridiculous, their clothes are lovely but with my large chest I can’t get into a single thing unless it’s very elasticated,’ another added. ‘I’m a size 16 and can’t get anything nice from there because of their sizing. They must lose so much business over their sizing issue!’
Lowri told the MailOnline of her experience: ‘I have already been back since and bought some casual summer dresses as I really do love their clothes. It’s just a shame that the sizes vary from being so small to being the perfect size.’
‘I’m happy that my post has had the support it’s had and that women now realise that the sizes are small in H&M and has nothing to do with themselves.’
A spokesperson for the brand told GoodtoKnow: ‘H&M hugely values all customer feedback. It is only ever our intention to design and make clothes that make our customers feel good about themselves, any other outcome is neither intended nor desired.’
