Great British Bake Off winner Candice Brown reveals engagement to Liam Macaulay

The GBBO champion announces plans to wed

Candice Brown has been batting off 'engagement rumours' since January, but now it's official! The champion of The Great British Bake Off 2016 has announced the happy news that she is engaged to beau of five years Liam Macaulay.

Taking to Twitter, the lipstick-loving baker thrilled her 85k followers with the news after keeping quiet about the relationship for months.

Candice posted a link to an interview with HELLO! magazine about the special moment, adding: 'Soooooooooo he really truly asked and I said yes.'

Congratulations quickly began rolling in, with one fan writing: 'Yes!! Big congrats to you and Liam!! So happy for you both!'

'Buzzing for you candice, you deserve this,' said another fan.

Recalling the proposal in the magazine announcement, Candice detailed how tree surgeon Liam, who she's been with since 2012, took her back to the spot where the couple had their first date in Bedfordshire and pulled a ring from the glove compartment of his car.

Liam admitted: 'So I proposed in a car park, but it meant something to us.'

'Candice just cried for five minutes before she could say, "Yes!"'

Former PE teacher Candice revealed that the proposal was everything she'd been waiting for.

'I get emotional because it's been such an amazing year. I feel very lucky. I've had such incredible opportunities – Bake Off opened so many doors – and to top it off he puts a ring on it,' she gushed.

Earlier this year, the Bake Off champ shrugged off the speculation of wedding bells in a chat with Loose Women, after she was spotted wearing a ring on her left hand, but explained that she was 'just wearing jewellery'.

'Poor boy - he's like, "Oh god, the pressure", and I'm like, "Don't you dare pressure-ask me to marry you!"' she said at the time.

The couple met in 2012 in a pub and now live together in Bedford, and appear to be very happy together, Candice has spilled the beans about their happy relationship on many occasions.

Talking to OK! Online, she said: 'We're very, very happy. He's a great support and my biggest cheerleader, we've got our pug, Dennis, and we've just rescued a Pomeranian. She's wonky, and blind in one eye, and we've called her Sybil.'

Speaking to the Sun in April 2017, Candice also confirmed she's keen to have kids with Liam, saying: 'We would love a family, I'm sure we will have children one day.'
