After a huge amount of speculation, an official announcement has been published in The Times newspaper that Kit Harington and Rose Leslie are engaged.
‘The engagement is announced between Kit, younger son of David and Deborah Harrington of Worcestershire, and Rose, middle daughter of Sebastian and Candy Leslie of Aberdeenshire,’ the notice read.
The couple have been dating for five years after meeting on the set of the hit show, Game of Thrones, where they played on-screen lovers Jon Snow and Ygritte, in 2012.
Although the couple didn’t go public with their relationship for years, Kit has since spoken candidly about falling in love with his former co-star.
The 30-year-old actor told Vogue last year that it was ‘easy’ to fall in love with Rose.
He said his best ever memory of the show were the three weeks in Iceland when they filmed the second season in 2012.
‘Because the country is beautiful, because the Northern Lights are magical, and because it was there that I fell in love,’ he said.
Kit and Rose, also 30, recently revealed that they had finally moved in together after five years of dating, having just purchased a £1.75 million house in East Anglia.
‘I’ve moved in with my other best friend Rose, so I’m very happy,’ Kit told James Corden in June. ‘It’s going well, so she’s got all sorts of ideas for the house.’
He added: ‘I said to her, cause she’s moved into my house, “Look darling, it’s important that this is our space. That it feels like our space. That you haven’t just moved into mine. Move anything you want around, change anything, chuck anything out.”‘

And while many Game of Thrones fans are thrilled with the news, there are a few ‘heartbroken’ Jon Snow lovers out there. One posted on Twitter: ‘Didn’t think my morning could get any worse, then I find out Kit Harrington is engaged.’
‘Kit Harrington proposing to his girlfriend has L I T E R A L L Y ruined my year’ said another, while a third was very honest about how she was feeling: ‘Today is a sad day, Kit Harrington is now engaged. My heart is broken.’
