Has Kate chosen her dress?

Kate Middleton is said to be wearing an Alexander McQueen dress for her Royal Wedding

Since Kate and Wills' engagement in November last year, there's been more than enough speculation about who will design Kate's dress, with Brit designers Bruce Oldfield and Phillipa Lepley named as the most likely candidates.

But now news that Alexander McQueen is Kate' chosen label has come to light. The Sunday Times reports that the label's chief executive, Jonathan Akeroyd has told a colleague that the company had won the commission - and we can see why.

The late Alexander McQueen designed a range of dresses fit for a queen over the years, using British history as his inpiration.

The designer now in the frame to design Kate's wedding dress is Sarah Burton, who was made creative director of the Alexander McQueen label last year after McQueen's death.

She's already designed a wedding dress for Sara Buys, who married Camilla's son Tom Parker Bowles in 2005, and Alexander McQueen himself once made suits for Prince Charles - so there's already a connection with the Royals .

Sarah Burton has denied reports that she is Kate's dress designer, saying: 'I am not doing it.' However, we know how much Kate Middleton wants to keep her dress for the Royal Wedding a secret, so what else could Sarah say?

Some top fashion magazines have Tweeted about the news...

Grazia magazine wrote: 'If news true, so happy for Sarah Burton designing Kate's dress. Brave fashion choice. Brilliantly talented designer. Excited.'

Harper's Bazaar editor Lucy Yeomans Tweeted: 'Hope McQueen/Middleton wedding dress rumour true as have predicted/wished it from day one. Bazaar fash ed Sara Buys an iconic trendsetter!!'

ELLEUK wrote: 'Sunday Times claims Sarah Burton is doing Kate Middleton's dress! She's got more chutzpah than we gave her credit for then...'
