Classic game show Supermarket Sweep is returning to ITV, with Rylan Clark-Neal presenting the new version.
The former X-Factor star said that it was ‘a dream come true to host one of the most iconic series in television history’, adding ‘I am beside myself with excitement and will be going wilder in the aisles than ever before.’
The original Supermarket Sweep ran from 1993 to 2001 on ITV, and as briefly revived in 2007.
Dale Winton hosted both runs of the game show, with the role becoming synonymous with the TV presenter for many years.
Contestants on Supermarket Sweep run around supermarket aisles collecting items, hoping to win a cash prize at the end.
Rylan took to Twitter to share his excitement about his new presenting job, writing: ‘Been waiting a while to say this but it’s finally time to GO WILD IN THE AISLES ONCE AGAIN!’
Speaking about the decision to have Rylan present the new series, a spokesperson said: ‘It was felt that nobody else was better suited to take over the role.
‘Rylan has a personality that will allow him to conjure up all the campery of old while still making the role his own’.
The new series will be running from Monday to Friday in a primetime slot over four weeks later this year. There will be 20 shows in total, so we’re sure there’s plenty of carnage in store.
