Adele's honest words about being a mum: 'It's f**king hard'
‘I gave birth a few nights before the Skyfall premiere. He was about to drop out my fanny at, like, any moment...’
In her first interview for three years, Adele has opened up about how becoming a mum has changed the way she deals with her music, her past and her priorities for the future.
Angelo was born in 2012, days before the premiere of Skyfall - for which she wrote her Oscar-winning song - and is her first child with partner Simon Konecki.
The 27-year-old explained to iD magazine: ‘I gave birth a few nights before the Skyfall premiere. He was about to drop out my fanny at, like, any moment.'
Since giving birth, the South Londoner and husband Simon, a charity CEO, who have been together since 2011, are notoriously private. She said: ‘Me being photographed in Waitrose is being famous for no reason and that is something that I am not up for.’
And it's reassuring to hear that even for such an accomplished star, the transition to motherhood hasn’t always been easy: ‘It's f**king hard, I thought it would be easy. Everyone does it, how hard can it be?
'I had no idea. It is hard but it’s phenomenal. It’s the greatest thing I ever did.’
At home the James Bond songstress says she doesn’t sing, apart from the occasional nursery rhyme - a favourite being Row Row Row Your Boat - and even then, her son ‘moans’.

‘There's nothing more grounding than a kid kicking off and refusing to do what you're asking of them.’
When filming the video for her latest release, Hello, in Canada, Adele had to leave Angelo at home: 'It was the most exhausting thing ever, being without my baby.’
The new album isn’t just about becoming a mum, but also about the changes that everyone goes through in their twenties: ‘The record is about getting older and becoming nostalgic… It’s about what was, what is, what might have been. '[It's] about trying to clear out the past… I don’t have the capacity to worry about as many things… Now that I’m a mum I only have so much head space.’
Reflecting on her own upbringing as child to a single mum she reveals: ‘I had a great childhood. I was very loved, which I realise now is so important. The way I was brought up, the morals are the same, but the environment is very different to how I’m raising my child.’
Unfortunately though, it sounds like we won’t be saying Hello to any more mini-Adeles in the near future as she said she ‘doesn’t know’ about having more children.
