Alex Jones opens up about her maternity leave 'paranoia'

'I love and respect my job and know it's one a lot of other people would like to do'

Alex Jones, who presents the One Show alongside the likes of Matt Baker, has revealed that she was scared to go on maternity leave in case someone took her job.

The mum-of-one, who welcomed her son Edward – or 'Teddy' as he is known - earlier this year, made the surprising revelation whilst speaking to the Daily Mirror.

'As much as I was really excited about having a baby, I was worried about going on maternity.'

Earlier this year, Alex admitted that her concerns weren't helped by the gripping BBC drama The Replacement that played on our screens earlier this year.

Following the story of a woman who becomes increasingly paranoid that her maternity replacement is trying to take over not just her job but her life too, Alex confessed to YOU magazine at the time that the show had stoked her own fears.

'I'd be lying to say I didn't feel any paranoia when I first left the show, but then you get over it because you realise there's nothing you can do about it.'

Despite Alex's self-confessed 'paranoia' about taking time off from her job to give birth and raise her baby son, the 40-year-old admitted that her bosses at the BBC were incredibly supportive and put her worries 'at ease'.

'The BBC and my editor are brilliant and made me feel at ease, so it was just my paranoia.'

The TV presenter has recently returned to work on the BBC show, and despite enjoying being back on our screens, the mum has also admitted that it is becoming 'increasingly hard' to leave her son at home in the mornings when she heads off to the studio.

Since giving birth to Teddy back in January, Alex has been enjoying all of the experiences of a first time mum and is preparing to celebrate the tot's first birthday very soon.
